"Whether it's the coronavirus, global economic collapse, or the wrong world leader with a nuclear weapon, friends, our lives can change in an instant, and if we're putting our trust in the wisdom of man to protect us from these things, then our sense of safety and security is a delusion. Our sinful natures draw us away from God during times of trial. In our arrogance we turn to the arm of the flesh. Isaiah 31:1 says, Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help and rely on horses, who trust in chariots because they are many and in horsemen because they are very strong, but do not look to the Holy One of Israel or consult the LORD! You see for all of our science, medicine, technology, and military might, we are always at the mercy of the unknown, and we need a refuge – and the only one who can protect us from the unknown is the one who knows no unknown – the one true and living God who has revealed himself in the pages of Scripture." |
