In this second message on the cost of following Jesus, we endeavor to continue answering our question: 'What makes the narrow gate so narrow and the difficult way so difficult?' In our first message we considered four interconnected answers to this question, to which we now add two more: 5. The gate is narrow because only God's elect enter into life by it. 6. The way is difficult because it is a life of self-denial and cross bearing. With the remainder of this message, we seek to answer a final and all-important question: 'What makes the narrow gate and the difficult way so desirable?' The answer comes down to this: the difficult way is the ONLY way that leads to life, and the joy of knowing Jesus Christ is worth whatever hardships we have to endure.
