When Paul says that it was by God's grace that he built the church it is a measure of all that was accomplished. It was all a testament to the saving, life giving Grace of Jesus Christ. Make sure that a survey of your life may make the same claim. It was also a measure on Paul's part of his own sinfulness and inadequacy. Paul knew that everything had to be of God's grace because in himself he had nothing to give.
Paul is the founder of the Corinthian Church. Others have followed him to take the charge of its development. Apollos was one of these who followed on to build upon what Paul had laid down. Paul did this same thing in Ephasus. There Timothy took over as the pastor/leader of that new church. Many others followed Paul in his pioneering work of raising up the edifice of the church in through out Asia and Europe. Paul is matter of fact that there will be others following after him in continuing the construction of the Church in these places. Only he warns that each one who adds to the church must take care in what they add. The reality is that in a certain way we are the ongoing expression of those founding moments. And all who come to Christ in the church are bricks in the constructing of the Church and all who come to Christ in the Church are builders as well. As such all of us must take heed how we build… what we add… to this church that is being built in the world.
