As we continue our study of principles that are important in the life of a believer, we will look at the Principle of Self-Discipline. The first item we look at is the Power of Self. We see how the flesh battles against the spirit. The flesh leads one to sin. Therefore, it is necessary for us to keep the flesh in control. We look at several Scriptures which speak of the flesh. Second, we see the importance of a follower of Christ practicing self-control/self-discipline. In order to help us understand the principle of self-discipline, we look at Proverbs 6 and the example of the ant. We see the ant acts without having a guide, to them to be accountable. The ant knows the future need, knows the need of sleep/rest and that poverty is the ants encourager. We also look at Scriptures which speak to self-discipline. Hebrews 12:11, Proverbs 25:28, 3:4, 18:9, 1st Corinthians 9:24-27, Titus 2:11-14. We conclude this message by looking at the reason why we need to practice self-discipline, where we should practice self-discipline, and finally realizing how Jesus practiced self-discipline by looking outside himself to the needs of others. |
