what happens when people don’t respond correctly to Christ? Our LORD has faced Annas and the Sanhedrin in the middle of the night, but as chapter 15 opens, Christ stands before the Sanhedrin again in the morning in order to finish up the religious trial. And by verse 2 the secular trial with Rome begins. Christ will face Pilate, Herod and then Pilate again, who stands before a growing hostile mob of Jewish citizens who will respond badly to Christ. They are stirred up and completely miss their Messiah. They mock Christ, they abuse Him and call for His death – reminding all of us that this is a fallen, sinful world, filled with wretchedly sinful people just like us. They responded to Christ in a horrible way and each of us who Love Him have done so in our own hearts and have seen a bad reaction from those we’ve shared the gospel with. This section of scripture is a warning to make certain we are truly God’s child, that we are dealing with our pride, that we don’t defend ourselves and are truly awed by Christ!
