The most interesting reference point in Daniel 9:27 is the very last phrase where Gabriel says that the one who puts the covenant into effect with Israel, and breaks it three and a half years later, is referred to as the desolator; “until the decreed end is poured out on the desolator.” This desolator obviously cannot be referring to Jesus. He is not the desolator. The desolator is the one who made the covenant with Israel, only to shatter this same covenant by setting himself up as God in the Temple itself, to the shock of the Jewish world.
