The religious world is agog over the election of a new Roman Catholic Pope. "Habemus papam!" - We have a Holy Father, the cry goes forth.
The title of Pope seems to obscure the blasphemy implicit in itself. We are very familiar with the papacy's usurpation of Christ's role as mediator, as High Priest, as once-for-all sacrifice. We are familiar with the papacy's usurpation of the Holy Ghost in its claim to be the "vicar of Christ."
But few grasp that in the title "Pope," the Papacy claims to be the Holy Father, God the Father on earth, with all His authority to forgive sins.
"Pope" is derived from the Latin word "Papa," which comes from the Greek children's word for father, "Pappas."
All the adulation, adoration, and obedience Christians owe to God the Father, the Pope now claims as his own. We see this worked out in the slavish adherence to his every word and appearance by Roman Catholics the world over.
The Papacy is the cuckoo bird of Christendom: pushing out the Godhead and poaching the nest for itself.
Jesus warned against calling any man father other than our God, thereby allowing someone other than God to have the Father's rightful spiritual authority over us.
Jesus commanded us to call God our Father, and Christ's Spirit in us cries Abba Father! We owe all filial love to God as our Father, and not to some Pope!
The Papacy claims that it, as Holy Father, is the true unity of the faithful.
But Christ prayed that His Holy Father might keep in His Name all the Saints in unity and love. Our adoption unifies us as the family of God.
The Papacy turns the Gospel Bread of Life into stone. Jesus warned us: false fathers give stones for bread!
