Christians need to constantly examine themselves to determine where it is that they stand. Discipleship is for those who are willing to set themselves aside for the Kingdom of God. We must be willing to lay aside our lives for the Kingdom of God. We must not give ourselves to the goal of another kingdom. Often, the focus is on an earthly and secular kingdom. Many in the time of Christ saw in the promised Messiah the fulfillment of their own purposes. But Christ came to fulfill an inward and not an outward kingdom. There are many competing visions of the Kingdom of God and Christ came to cleanse and deliver us from this. Our culture tries to tell us what our lives should look like, but we cannot listen. The call of Christ goes against the pressures the world puts on us. The Gospel is not about earthly blessing. The Lord is seeking in each generation those that will surrender their lives to Him. The rich are those that are goal driven and overwhelmed. They are focused on wealth, goals, a certain timeline of their life and their peers and their culture influence them. Many will spend their whole lives on these pursuits, but all is vanity. We must lay aside our lives for the sake of the Kingdom of God. We must not put all our time and energy into things that are passing away. We are blessed so we can serve others for the Kingdom of God. Christ calls us to love all things less in comparison to Christ and His Kingdom. Are we willing to fulfill the role that God has called us to? Are we willing to be servants? We will be a sacrifice and a ransom for others. We are to lay down our lives for the sake of the Kingdom of God, not for our own preferences and desires.
