While the Apostle Paul did not use the English language, he may have liked an English colloquial word from the early 20th century to express what he says in our text. That word is, Sticktuitiveness. According to one on-line dictionary, sticktuitiveness means, "dogged perseverance; resolute tenacity. Example: "The only way she has published so many books is through stick-to-it-ive-ness. " As the inspired apostle counsels the church on how to behave, and what to do and think while he is unavailable, he gives them (and us) some commands. These commands are given to you, not as mere suggestions, but the authoritative commands of one who is divinely inspired and has responsibility to teach, guide and guard the church of Jesus Christ. He is particularly concerned that God's people resolutely, perseveringly, and tenaciously be united in one spirit and mind. Are you standing fast? |
