Angels are spiritual beings created by God. They do not possess physical bodies, and cannot suffer death physically. They worship God, serving and obeying Him.
Though man is made a little lower than the angels, yet the angels are servants to the Saints. They observe the Saints as we follow the Savior, and especially as we obey His Word in promotion of the Gospel and Christ's Kingdom.
Angels rejoice in the salvation of sinners. They observe us as we worship. They are curious about the Gospel, the Apostle Peter tells us.
Two things must astound the Angels as they observe us around the Lord's Table. First, they must be astounded that sinners can ever come to God.
For Angels know of the deadly effects of sin. It destroys a being's desire toward God. It brings instant spiritual death. No being that has sinned can ever come to God, or seek to worship Him, or seek His mercy or pardon. Rather, sinners hate God.
The Angels know of this because they saw it in their own kind when Satan sinned and fell. There was never any hope for the fallen angels.
But glory to God, sinful men are regenerated by the mercy and power of God and brought to Him, and made to seek after Him and to do His will once again!
The Angels must marvel at the spiritual resurrection from the dead that they see in us as we worship God.
Most astounding to the Angels must be the fact that sinners are received into the presence of God. In us, the Angels see the application of the Gospel, by which our sins are purged and we are declared righteous for Jesus' sake. His perfect sacrifice makes us fit to be in the presence of the holy God!
