King Jotham was a good king for the most part and kept up with the good things his father did. He became mighty because he put the Lord first. But when his son Ahaz came to the throne at the age of 20, he seemed to have no godliness. Everything he did, he did wrong. Whereas Jotham sought godly power and acknowledged God's presence and overriding rule, Ahaz searched for power wherever he could get it. Our kingdom needs to come under the rule of God. "My" kingdom and "my" rule will only lead to my disaster.
