Haggai exhorts the faithful to go back to the place of obedience of the Lord and go back to building the temple. They were focusing on their own well-being instead of the glory of God. They had everything they needed to do exactly what God said to do. Instead of building the temple, they used the material to build their own houses. Because the temple was left to deteriorate they lost the ability to worship God. They had no place to offer the prescribed sacrifices of surrender, peace and purity. The privilege to worship God was missing. Once our fellowship with God is hindered our worship of God will also be hindered and we will not be able to experience the manifested presence of God.
