Imagine a couple invites you out to dinner in a fine restaurant. You and your spouse go and join them and enjoy a delicious dinner, great service and warm fellowship. The check comes and your host takes it and pays it promptly while you are trying to ask the waitress for separate checks. She says "the bill is already been paid, sir." You feel just terrible so you say to your friend, "let me pay the tip." But the tip has already been paid, too. Everything has been paid. It's been paid in full. We often have the hardest time in accepting that. People do us favors and we want to pay them back. It is difficult to accept something absolutely free. We think we must pay our own way. God's grace says to you, "I've paid the price. I have taken care of everything. Accept it. Believe it. It's a declared fact. You can't undo your sin, but my Son paid the full price of it." We are so undeserving! But as Benjamin Warfield once said, "Grace is free sovereign favor to the ill-deserving." People just like you and me!
