This week in Mark 9:30-50 Jesus gives his disciples another lesson in discipleship by redefining greatness. Just as we ourselves are often prone to think, the disciples believed greatness came with certain privileges, power and exclusive rights. And this is what they were seeking. But on the contrary, Jesus teaches that true greatness involves putting others first, serving others, and receiving them into our lives to share with them the gifts of God. Anything that gets in the way of such love and causes us, or anyone else, to stumble, should be gotten rid of. Such is the greatness and eternal value of the kingdom of God. Nothing is worth letting it get in the way of us entering it.
