The Bible speaks often about prayer and also provides many examples of prayer. Our confession, the Heidelberg Catechism, calls prayer, "the chief part of thankfulness which God requires of us" and that we wholeheartedly call upon the only true God, humble ourselves before Him and pray with the assurance that comes not from our own sense of worthiness, but "for the sake of Christ our Lord." (Q/A 116, 117) In our text today, the inspired apostle also gives us some very specific instruction regarding our prayer life. If your prayers seem to be getting stale or sporadic, listen to what the Word tells you.
