As we are starting a new year, many make resolutions. Commitments about things that they wish to change in their lives. Quite often the desire is to get in better physical shape, get a better job, or just to do better in some area of their life. No matter what it is that is desired to be changed it must start in the mind. That is where change begins. Now we don't always succeed at what we set out to do. Things get in the way, something always comes up, temptations abound, and of course change is hard. But how much do you desire it? Solomon here is writing in the latter portion of his life. And this verse is his confession, it looks back at his hearts original desire and shows that it wasn't satan that got him to turn away from following God. Satan is just a convenient excuse for us. As the new year dawns which desire will we pursue? Will we pursue madness and folly which our flesh craves or after God’s wisdom which our spirit needs and should have as our goal?
