Jesus Beginning to End If you are not interested in seeing Jesus in Genesis you may as well go to a synagogue instead of a church. As we have seen the first book of God’s Scripture is rich with allusions to Jesus. As our Confessions states in reference to the Covenant : under the law it was administered by promises, prophecies, sacrifices, circumcision, the paschal lamb, and other types and ordinances delivered to the people of the Jews, all foresignifying Christ to come; which were, for that time, sufficient and efficacious, through the operation of the Spirit, to instruct and build up the elect in faith in the promised Messiah, by whom they had full remission of sins, and eternal salvation; and is called the Old Testament. We have journeyed alongside our OT forefathers for some time now and we have seen Jesus from their ancient faith-perspective as well as our own current state of faith. Genesis is certainly teems with biblical history, theology, moral lessons and the like – all worthy of our full attention. I am certain that I ran too quickly to Jesus too often and I should have perhaps lingered longer on other valuable stuff before getting to Him – but now I am done and don’t intend to start over at this point. That said, in this first volume in the history of redemption the Redeemer looms large and must not be missed. In this concluding summary sermon on this great first book of God’s Holy Cannon we close by examine in a condensed way a few of the ways the Lord Jesus is evident in the book of beginnings.
