Superheroes: Another Name for Sorcerers We ought to remember the example of Elymas the Sorcerer who Paul The Apostle referred to as a child of the devil in Acts 13:6-12. This revival of sorcery occurred when Doctor Strange hit the box office on 20 October, 2016. Both Marvel Comics and DC Comics are no strangers to Satanic sorcery and their superhero comics are a demonstration of such sorcery. Not surprisingly, Doctor Strange (Stephen Vincent Strange) is known as the "Sorcerer Supreme". Then again, even the secular superheroes like Iron Man, Batman, Superman, Supergirl, and Spider-Man are also sorcerers. As Elymas the Sorcerer was a child of the devil and an enemy of all righteousness, so are these Satanic sorcerers known as superheroes and supervillains.

Zatanna Zatara: Satanic Witch There is a character from DC Comics called Zatanna (Zatanna Zatara). What is not said is that Zatanna is really a Satanic witch. Replacing the "Z" with an "S" means that Zatanna has the name Satan written in her name. This shows that Satan the serpent is as subtle as he was back in the Garden of Eden, especially with imaginary characters that derive their power from Satanic witchcraft as Zatanna does. This sermon shows that Satan is seeking to introduce humanity to counterfeit saviors which are as sinful as the very people that they represent.

Super Blasphemous Superheroes It should be noted that superhero media is blasphemy against The Lord since such media depicts sinful people as "saviours". This means that superheroes are super blasphemous. The Lord is The Only Saviour and any other "saviour" is only committing blasphemy against The Lord. Worth noting Isaiah 43:11, John 14:6, and Acts 4:12 in times like these.

Superheroes: Unsaved People It should be noted that superheroes as well as the people who write superhero comics are unsaved people, who will spend their eternity in Hell and The Lake of Fire. Why would superheroes like Superman want eternal salvation if they see themselves as the "guardians of the world and the universe"? People, including professing Christians, argue that superheroes stop the "bad guys" even though these superheroes are just as bad as the "bad guys" that they "stop." This sermon shows that Satan is using worldly heroes, including superheroes, to distract people into wanting to "defend the world" even though this world is in rebellion against The Lord and His Righteous Rule. This sermon also shows that the superhero gospel is a secular social gospel.

Superpowers: Another Name for Witchcraft It should be noted that "abilities" and "superpowers" in superhero media is just another name for witchcraft. This also includes the science-based superheroes like Spider-Man. This is not to say that science is witchcraft, but that the spider powers of Spider-Man are witchcraft. In ancient times, people had superpowers, but it was because they were devil-possessed practitioners of witchcraft. Superhero media conflicts with The Lord and His Righteous Ways since all superhero media is rooted in witchcraft. Worth noting Deuteronomy 18:10-12.

Devil Dinosaur: Unclean Spirit It should be noted that Devil Dinosaur is really an unclean spirit.

Remembering Psalm 20:7-9 Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the Lord our God. They are brought down and fallen: but we are risen, and stand upright. Save, Lord: let the king hear us when we call. (Psalm 20:7-9).

Superhero Stories: Popularized Pagan Mythology It should be noted that superhero stories are just another avenue for popularizing the pagan mythologies of the world. This is evident in the stories of Thor and Wonder Woman, given that both characters are based on pagan deities. Of course, these pagan deities are made like the corruptible image of sinful humans. Worth remembering Romans 1:23.

Marvel Not At Vain Imaginations This sermon about superheroes and supervillains shows reasons as to why we should marvel not at the vain imaginations of stories about superheroes and supervillains.

Genesis 6:4 and The Nephilim There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown. (Genesis 6:4).

Super relativism and situational ethics! These superhero stories are evidently rooted in situational ethics and relativism. Enough said.

Super Sinful Pride There is something obvious about superheroes mentioned by the speaker in this sermon. Superheroes, like Superman and Batman, are full of sinful pride, especially the pride of prestige, the pride of respectability, and the pride of reputation.
While Our Lord requires us to walk in a more lowly direction, the superhero stories cater to sinful pride. Thus, being a superhero is just being sinfully prideful. Remember the wisdom of Proverbs 16:18.

Practical insight! The speaker also mentioned that the female superhero characters tend to wear pornographic outfits. That would include Catwoman and Black Widow since both wear catsuits, especially if the catsuits worn by them are high neck. Even secular sources like Wikipedia acknowledge that catsuits, including those with built in turtlenecks, are garments associated with a sensual fetish, particularly one of sinful lust. Remember Matthew 5:28.

Not so superheroes! There is nothing innocent, nor "super" about the superheroes wearing ridiculous costumes. This sermon shows that superheroes are just as depraved in heart as the supervillains that they regularly square with. The only thing that is "super" about these so called superheroes is their heart hellbent on depravity, especially depravity in the name of "well-intentioned" objectives.

Great Sermon! Aside from humanistic philosophy in superhero media, there are reports of the writers of these superhero comics like Alan Moore being involved in occult activity. We know that the Bible condemns involvement in any occult activity in Deuteronomy 18:10-12.
Not to mention that many superheroes and supervillains like Dr. Strange, Scarlet Witch, Circe, and Amora the Enchantress are practitioners of sorcery.

Very practical! The battles that these so-called superheroes fight against supervillains and politicians is only a superficial battle of humanism vs. humanism, both secular humanism and religious humanism as are all major historical wars like World War I and World War II. It is not the battle that we are assigned to fight, which is spiritual warfare in Ephesians 6:10-20. We who live the Christian Life like in John Bunyan's The Pilgrim's Progress realize that trials in life are a spiritual battle against the powers of spiritual darkness. Let us not be sidetracked by imaginary action story narratives like G.I. Joe and superhero comics which only focus on superficial battles and wars between humanistic institutions.

Something to think about! We can read about the Heroes of the Faith in Hebrews 11.

Insightful! Superheroes and supervillains both share one thing in common. They both are characterized by a sinful heart. Both are just two different sides of the same coin.

Practical insight. The speaker also mentioned that superheroes tend to promote violence as documented by a professional psychologist. It is because superheroes are known for their obsessive guardian mentality. Even if superheroes restored order to the world, they would still create more problems in society than correct them. The other issue is that allowing superheroes to be guardians of society would cause them to use their power for corrupt purposes, even in the name of "rescuing society" and "restoring order." No amount of humanistic reconstruction of society, even by sinful superheroes, can change the sinful heart of humanity.
This verse from the Bible reveals the real human heart, a sinful one.
The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? (Jeremiah 17:9).
The Only Sinless Hero is the Lord Jesus Christ, the True Saviour.

Great Sermon! The world of superheroes is one where there is no peace, just perpetual warfare all the time. It's ironic how today's professing Christians idealize the superheroes in spite of the humanistic philosophy entrenched in the entire superhero genre.

Great Sermon! This sermon is very helpful because it proves that super heroes aren't so super after all! We should be careful in what we watch and read so that our minds aren't corrupted; also, we should be sure that we aren't supporting the works of darkness. Thank you, Pastor Reed!
