In a oft-used verse, people quote the words of Jesus, "Judge Not, that You be not Judged." Typically, this verse is in response to someone who has pointed out error or sin in someone's life. What exactly does this verse mean? What specifically is the context of this statement by Jesus? Should a Christian not point out the error in someone else? Judging A helpful sermon that examines judgment. The pastor discusses how we are to judge wisely, "Do not judge by appearances, but judge with right judgment." John 7:24. He also points out the prideful heart attitude of the Pharisees when they judged others; and how people tend to use Matthew 7 to justify what they want to do. It's helpful to go all over the Scriptures to study judging. We also are not to judge hypocritically. "First remove the beqm from your own eye..." The very next week she vehemently complained about being charged an extra $2 on her phone bill. We can't be hypocritical or reckless about judging others!
