I recently received an email from Dr. Terrry Mortenson from Answers in Genesis containing an update and assesment of the Evangelical Theological Society's Creation Fellowship meeting that was held during the ETS annual meeting in mid-November in Atlanta GA.
During that conference, AIG distributed 2,000 leaflets, encouraging the ETS participants to consider purchasing the book "Coming to Grips with Genesis" which is a seminary-level defense of young-earth creationism and which has now sold over 10,000 copies.
Dr. Mortenson reports that there we some encouraging sign (re: Christians holding to a Young-Earth Creationist view) at the meeting. Signs including, attendance levels at thier presentations, and various discussions they were involved in.
But he also noted that there some discouraging signs as well. Such as, the evidence of the growing rejection of the truth of Genesis.
In the conclusion of the email, Dr. Mortenson writes, "since Genesis is absolutely foundational to the Bible's teaching on death, the character of God and the redemptive work of Christ, then the truth of Genesis 1-11 falls in the category of “essentials,” not “nonessentials.” Certainly, we must be loving as we confront error in the church, but we simply cannot “just agree to disagree.” The spiritual health of the church, the lost souls of people and the glory of God are at stake. We must believe, proclaim and defend the truth of Genesis to be faithful to God and His Word."
On the program today, I will speak with Dr. Terry Mortenson re: His assesment of the ETS meeting and the on-going efforts of AIG.
