On January 15, 2009, the world witnessed what many have called the 'Miracle on the Hudson' when Sully Sullenberger III successfully landed US Airway Flight 1549 in the Hudson River, saving all 155 passengers and crew members. He was the right man in the right place at the right time--a miracle. God still performs miracles today. Some are miracles of POWER in which God supersedes or suspends natural laws to accomplish His plans. Others are miracles of PROVIDENCE where God moves the right people into the right place at just the right time. The miracle of the actual birth of Jesus was not a miracle of power for there is no evidence in God's Word of anything extraordinary about his birth. Mary had birth pains just like all other women before her. But the miracle of the birth of Jesus is one of providence, for God orchestrated human government affairs, moved a pagan ruler to issue a decree for a census requiring Jews to return to their ancestral hometowns to register at the precise moment that the Messiah is to be born, so that Mary and Joseph would be in Bethlehem at the right place at the right time in order to fulfill the prophecy of Micah 5:2. This is the miracle of Bethlehem!!
