When tensions arose between the herdsmen of Abram and of Lot a parting of ways was necessitated. The Scriptures tell us that "Lot lifted his eyes". With carnal and worldly ambition he set his gaze upon the fertile land surrounding the corrupt city of Sodom. He moved his family into a region for material gain, but did not consider what it would cost him spiritually. In contrast, God Himself commanded Abram to "lift your eyes" to look upon the land of promise that He was graciously giving him. In our lives, as we make decisions, we must always consider first and foremost the good or harm that will come to our never dying souls as a consequence of such decision. May Lot stand as a warning to us to not walk down the same path!
