God made the earth and set man to rule over it. The man with that charge was Adam and he failed quickly at it (Genesis 3). But, that mandate still remains. In fact, a second Adam is needed, and one will appear to rule perfectly over the earth. That man is Jesus. (Genesis 1:26-28; 1 Corinthians 15:45; Romans 5:18-19) While we may speak often of Jesus as Savior or Priest (and limit our thoughts of His Kingship to the Christmas season), the Bible points clearly to the returning Christ as King and speaks of His Kingdom on earth. Today, we consider some prophecies of the Old Testament that paint a portrait of King Jesus. This should fill us with joy, hope and anticipation.
FOUR PROPOSITIONS CONCERNING MAN AND HIS KINGLY REIGN OVER THE EARTH
1. Man's purpose is to rule sovereignly over creation. (Genesis 1:26-28) 2. Main failed to rule the earth as king. (Genesis 3) 3. Man still possess the authority and responsibility to rule the earth. (Psalm 8:3-8; Hebrews 2:5-8) 4. Man will one day rule the earth through a second Adam.
FIVE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE SECOND ADAM
1. He will be a man. (1 Corinthians 15:45; Daniel 7:13; Isaiah 9:6) 2. He is God. (Isaiah 9:6). 3. He will restore man's lost dominion over the earth. (Isaiah 9:7; Psalm 2:7-9; Isaiah 42:4) 4. He will be righteous. (Isaiah 11:5; Psalm 72:1) 5. He will be King. (Zechariah 14:9; Isaiah 32:1)
