It is not enough for Israel to say that they cherish life. They must value life the way God values life. This will be especially important as the second generation deals with other nations outside the Promised Land. Because the world is stained by sin it is inevitable that wars will arise and that Israel will be drawn into conflict with their neighbors. This sermon exhorts us to leave behind any pretensions that we may have make ourselves judges over how life must be valued. We must not merely cherish life we must do so in the way that God commands or we are not truly valuing what God has made.
