At the end of chapter 3 of Romans, beginning with verse 21, Paul changes direction now having clearly established and settled the fact that we are a people hopelessly depraved and enslaved to our sin. He now opens a door of opportunity and hope. There is hope, but only in one place--in Jesus Christ and the redemption He provides. In verse 27 he asks the question, 'Where then is boasting? It is excluded.' One of the first conclusions to be drawn from justification by faith is it excludes all boasting, all self-glory, because all attention now is turned from myself to the living God.
