Preaching Elder R. Rubino Sermon Outline for Sunday, November 7, 2021 Sermon: "Boring and Faithful!" Pt. 1- What's Wrong With You People? Pt. 30
I Text: Old Covenant: Judges 10:1,2 New Covenant: Luke 15:11-32 II Doctrine:
Although the narrative concerning Tola in the Bible is short, it reveals his ability as a leader. Unlike other Judges in the book Tola does not need to deliver Israel from an enemy. He is blessed by God and his leadership is adequate to keep the people from wholesale rebellion. Tola is a great example of how being "boring and faithful" is a blessing from God. Tola was the son of Puah (mouth or utterance), and the grandson of Dodo (beloved one). He was a member of the tribe of Issachar and lived in Shamir (sharp stone or flint). We must remember a life of steady faith is just as valuable to God, as a life filled with drama. In the Church we have copied the culture and placed higher value on the extraordinary conversion stories. Boring and faithful lives are pleasing to God and help stabilize the Christian community. The Church should hold up the boring and faithful as an example on how to live the Christian life, as opposed to the troubled and drama filled believer.
