"I have found a ransom." That is wonderful news for ruined humanity. Christ came to give his life a ransom for many. He changed places with those he redeems; that is God's doing and it takes effect as we receive Christ. Christ alone paid the ransom; and if want to be set free from ruin we must not look anywhere else but to Christ. The one man Christ took the place of many; there will be a multitude in glory because of what he did - "It is finished"; what hope that should give us! The ransom price was his life; death is what our sin deserves, and that is what he suffered in God's arrangement. He bore our sins; his death was an official act in which God held him accountable for all the sins of all the redeemed. That death is a sufficient ransom; no more can be added. That death is an efficient ransom; God had a saving purpose for many, and the ransom ensures they will be set free through the gospel, the new birth, and their faith in Christ. The ransom has taken effect. People are being set free from the penalty of God's Law and from the control of their sinful nature. They enter a new relationship with God ("kings and priests unto God"). Through Christ they are more than conquerors, and have access to God like priests offering petitions and praise to their Father in heaven. Finally, "the meek shall inherit the earth"; at the resurrection the last part of our ruined condition will have passed away forever in the blessing of GOd's new creation.
