Solomon wisely wrote, "It is good that you grasp one thing and also not let go of the other; for the one who fears God comes forth with both of them" (Ecclesiastes 7:18). How does that relate to God's plan to wipe out humanity with the flood? In this section of the flood account, God reveals His assessment of Noah's righteousness and the world's wickedness, which results in the Lord's condemnation of the world, but we also see His gracious promise of a covenant with Noah. Peter tells us that Noah was "a preacher of righteousness" (2 Peter 2:4) and literally built God's prescribed means of salvation for anyone who wanted to escape the coming judgment. We have a similar responsibility to warn everyone that they must give an account of themselves to God, and we have the responsibility to tell everyone that our God is gracious and merciful, offering forgiveness to those who trust in our Lord Jesus Christ, fleeing the wrath to come.
