In contrast to the babbling prayers of the pagans, Jesus teaches his disciples how to pray in the Disciples' Model Prayer. The fact that it is addressed to the Father sets it apart as a uniquely Christian prayer since it is only by the merits of the Father's Son that we can learn expanded revelation of the Father's nature, as well as be qualified to enter his presence by the redeeming work of the Son. The holiness of God, the coming of the kingdom of God, and the execution of the will of God encompass the God-exalting first part of this prayer. The second part is composed of petitions regarding both material and spiritual realities and needs. The prayer closes with a return to an exaltation of the glory and power of God; thus beginning and ending with the focus on God himself, not people's needs. This is probably the most instructively concise prayer in the Bible.
