Jesus was betrayed by two friends after the Passover supper. One of them was Judas, who is not an Elect son of God. The other was Peter, who is an Elect son of God. Peter was forewarned of his denial by Christ during the Passover supper. He temporarily fell, but was preserved by God as are all the Elect. We are in need of an effectual Savior because we are sinners. During the illegal trial of Christ by the Jews, Peter denied Him three times between midnight and 3 AM. Jesus looked at Peter after the rooster crew at 3 AM and Peter remembered that Christ had told him that he would deny Him three times. Peter went out and wept bitterly. Despite his denial, Peter was preserved by the Lord and became a mighty man of God and a preacher of the Gospel to the Jews and the Gentiles. Peter is sometimes credited as the founder of the Church, which is an idea that is absolutely without credibility. The keys to the Kingdom that Peter were given refers to God using Peter to preach the Gospel to both the Jews and the Gentiles. God will preserve all of His Elect, and the Lord knows how to deliver them out of temptations.
