I did not change my mind about who Jesus is, until Jesus changed my mind about who He is. I didn't change my mind about sin until Jesus changed my mind about sin.
So at that point, what will you do with that knowledge?
Puritan pastor Thomas Watson wrote, "'Til sin be bitter, Christ will not be sweet."
There might be people here who think they are repentant because they have re-sponded religiously to their sin. There might be those who think they are repentant because they feel bad for something they have done. There might be those who think they are repentant because they are trying to do whatever they can to avoid hell and get to heaven.
There is no place or point where we get to take any credit for our salvation. True re-pentance is a change of heart of mind, made possible by God alone, and found through Him alone. It is an abandoning of self, and an embracing of the Lord. It is the humbling of a heart before Him. It is not just surrendering your life, because people tend to think of their life as just this reality and what is going on presently. It is the absolute surrender of self.
More specifically…….
It is not simply the surrendering of my life. It is the understanding and godly revela-tion that my life was never mine to begin with. How could I give to God that which I only ever imagined I owned?
