The Christian life is to be a generous life, and generosity of spirit is a main characteristic of one who is filled with the Spirit of the Lord Jesus Christ. While money is not the core of what this generosity is about, neither is money excluded.
As a general rule, God honors our generosity of spirit in this life, so that what we sow, we reap in abundance in the here and now, even though that is not always the case because God sometimes ordains very different results than what we might expect. But he always works everything, even the bad things, for our ultimate good in Christ.
We are called to deal with others as God has dealt with us. He has forgiven us all our sins merely for Jesus' sake. We have all sowed to the flesh, but by faith we have reaped what Jesus sowed by his sinless life and atoning death.
This same grace-rooted, gracious generosity of spirit is the example to which we are called to follow. We are right with God by grace alone, received through faith alone, and our faith rests in the person and work of Christ alone. But when we come to Christ, we receive the gracious Holy Spirit who changes us, more and more, so that we become like the Lord Jesus Christ.
