Some bold assertions made in this sermon, but not in order to be rash, but to magnify the word of God. The statement is made in the sermon that Bible colleges are worthless. This is done to contrast the importance of the Bible and the authority of the Church through the Word of God. Perhaps you can find usefulness in a bible college, but not at the expense of God's word. The Romish priest said that you were not able to understand the bible, and this is the cry of the modern scholar, in that if you do not understand Greek, then you do not know the real word. I disagree wholly, and the bible itself, the true authority, will make it plain. Certainly translation work is important, but without the correct and inspired interpretation, the translation will not be accurate. Inspiration, I believe deals more directly with interpretation than with translation, and this is insinuated in 2 Peter 1, in that the prophecy is of no private interpretation, but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost. |
