In this passage, Jesus covers a lot of ground in a short time. He teaches us that scripture is almost always uttered by two voices. God's and man's. God spoke by the mouth of David. Scripture is not the opinons of men. It is God-breathed and yet delivered through human mouths. Secondly, Jesus has a lesson about the mystery of the union of divine and human natures in His person. Thirdly, there is a lesson about false prophets and their wicked fruits. They love the approval of men. They do everything for vainglory. Finally, there is a lesson on judgments. There are different degrees of punishment which are determined according to the light you have been given. Scribes will receive greater condemnation.
