Even the strongest Christians are capable of the worst spiritual failures. Don't you think? This is not fatalistic thinking. It's simply realistic. And it's what Jesus deliberately taught His first disciples when He predicted their profound disloyalty to Him on Good Friday. "All of you will be made to stumble because of Me this night..."
Mark 14:27 (NKJV) As you might remember, it wasn't just Peter who insisted Jesus was mistaken; he simply spoke first and loudest: "If I have to die with you, I will not deny you!" And they all said likewise." Mark 14:31 It is not merely weak, immature disciples who are in danger of spiritual failure. These future apostles were the best-trained disciples on earth when they abandoned their master. And they did so just hours after pledging their loyalty to Him and debating which of them was the greatest! What happened? I hope to see you here this Sunday as we turn again to Mark 14 and consider, "Responding to Jesus: The Weakness of Strong Sheep."
