Sometimes, God comes to ask, ‘Do you know me?’, or even to accuse, ‘You don’t really know me’. As God’s people, it is possible to drift and to live much as the world does and forget that God is concerned with us. We may fear being brought into God’s court room, but it is here that we really come to know him. We see that idols have meant more to us than him, and see him waiting to heal us, revive us and raise us up to live before him. Idols, really, are hideous. God, really, is wonderful. It’s just that, sometimes, we need convincing. Hosea announces God’s word: ‘Let us return to the Lord’. |
