A homely address to the aged pilgrims at Milward House, Tunbridge Wells, at Friday morning devotions.
To take heed is to pay careful attention, take notice. Many times through the Gospels we read our Lord beginning a warning with the words "Take heed".
The text - Matthew 16:6 is a warning to beware of doctrine, wrong teaching. The Pharisees looked to their own righteousness while the Sadducees denied the resurrection of the dead. Both serious errors.
We look at 3 warnings to take heed to ourselves. Mark 13:9, Luke 17:3 and Luke 21:34
Then 7 warnings to take heed: 1/ That we do not our alms to be seen of men. Matthew 6:1 2/ That we do not despise the Lord's little ones. Matthew 18:10 3/ That no man deceives us. Matthew 24:4 4/ What we hear. Mark 4:24 5/ To watch and pray. Mark 13:33 6/ To beware of covetousness. Luke 12:15 7/ That the light in us be not darkness. Luke 11:35
