What would you think of a surgeon with this attitude?
"I won't wear surgical gloves. After all, they don't make me a great surgeon. Being a doctor is more than wearing gloves. I'm a surgeon because of my love for medicine, my extensive training, and my skill in the operating room—not because I wear gloves. These rules about wearing gloves are just bureaucratic. Gloves are just for those who need something outward to show they are doctors. 'Real doctors' don't wear gloves!"
A doctor with this attitude is showing either his arrogance -- thinking himself invincible -- or his ignorance – thinking viruses are imaginary. That kind of doctor could destroy himself and contaminate all his patients— while both he and they are confident that he is a good doctor. In the end he would be only a transmitter of death, not a saver of life.
The word “flesh” refers to the indwelling sin principle that remains in a believer after he is saved, although its absolute power over him is broken. When we “mortify the flesh” (Rom 8:13) or “put off the old man” (Eph 4:22) or “deny ungodly lusts” (Lk 9:23) we stop its influence momentarily — not its existence permanently. The most detailed explanation of this doctrine is Rom 6 it is called identification with Christ.
