As we begin 1 Samuel, we are continuing out study of the story of the Old Testament. We began several years ago in Exodus and continued through the Penteteuch, Joshua, Judges and Ruth.
As far as the Major point in the last two books has been that God alone is the explanation of why his covenant promises were realized. By the actions (and rebellions) of His people, they should be been rejected and destroyed.
However, God's mercies and kindnesses enabled the story to continue... so that in the fullness of the times, His Promise of a Redeemer and Savior could be realized.
In this first study, we will look at Chapter 1 and the Song of Hannah in Chapter 2. She and her husband, Elkanah, are clear exceptions to the norm. God hears the prayers of Hannah and provides her with a son... whom she had promised to the LORD if he would grant him to her.
