It is often dangerous to make assumptions. By their very nature, assumptions are rooted in our unique life experiences and the resulting expectations. For example, how you react to a strange dog will be based upon your previous encounters with other dogs. If your previous encounters were positive, you are more likely to view the dog in a way that may not be justified and you may suddenly have a very painful and negative experience. In the verses before us today, the apostle makes some assumptions about his readers. He assumes that your soul is purified, and that you have been born again. If these are true, he has some expectations for you. The danger lies in the possibility that these are not true about you and, in that case, the danger is yours. But if they are true, then here is what you are to do.
