Aim: To copy and perpetrate the spirit of the apostolic heart.
Doctrine: The apostolic heart yearns for oneness and encouragement in the church. What was so important to Paul ought to be key for us as well. Sin separates us; grace unites us.
Exegesis: The core values of the apostolic heart: that churchmen seek to be united in their shared convictions (v. 2), do everything in their power to bond in the gospel proliferation (v. 3), and be focused, together, on the glories of God (v. 4).
Further application: How to imitate the apostolic heart: let us be passionate about Christ and His gospel, and be mindful concerning the forces that are at work against us.
Key verse: v. 2 ''I implore Euodia and I implore Syntyche to be of the same mind in the Lord.''
