For where your treasure is, there you heart will be also. – Luke 12:34 There are two sides to the coin of truth in Luke 12:34. One side of that coin is this: show me the thing you supremely love and that reveals the content of your heart. The other side to that coin is this: as you grow to treasure God more, you will begin to value this world’s treasure less.

There is a progressive sanctification that should be true for every saint of God. As you treasure God more and as God becomes more valuable to you, you will correspondingly treasure and value this world less. That’s why as the saints of God grow older, heaven grows sweeter and sweeter to them. A dear saint in our church, in the last few months of his earthly life, wondered why the Lord didn’t just go ahead and take him home. How could he feel that way? He felt that way because the treasure, which is God, had become so great that staying down here just didn’t appeal to him anymore.

Dear Christian, pray and plan to grow old satisfied in God. This earth and this earth’s stuff is a hollow provision for our satisfaction. Pretty soon, you’re just so worn out you can’t really enjoy it anyway! But, when your heart treasures God, the thoughts of His kingdom grows sweeter and sweeter. You see, God’s not trying to rob you when He doesn't give you everything you want. If He allows your mind and body to weaken and you lose joy in this life, He's actually not depriving you of anything because He’s preparing for you everything! We are joint heirs with the Prince of Heaven, Jesus Christ!
