Bethel is 200 years old this year. As well as celebrating with an open day and historical talk, we are delighted to announce that a 250-page paperback, written by our Pastor, entitled 'The Hope in Hope Street' will be published this autumn. With 25 black-and-white illustrations including pictures of former pastors, historic buildings relating to the history of the Church and rejected designs from the 1970s rebuilding of the church, this is a book that should interest everyone.
In his foreword, Tristram Hunt, M.P. For Stoke-on-Trent Central, writes: "I am delighted to welcome the Reverend Gervase Charmley's scholarly yet accessible history of Hope Street... A gripping account of the Church's theological development and organisational struggles, against the backdrop of the changing nature of Stoke-on-Trent and the Nonconformist movement. This is an important, persuasive and compelling book, proving once again the powerful bond between Protestant Dissent and The Potteries."
