Should we, for the sake of avoiding persecution, stop preaching the cross? The Apostle Paul’s response was that to do so would take away from the offense of the message of the cross, Galatians 5:11. He could never do that, and neither can any faithful preacher of the Gospel of Christ today. WHY IS THE BIBLE MESSAGE OF THE CROSS SO OFFENSIVE TO PEOPLE?

· It addresses all people as sinners, and that offends man’s sense of dignity. Romans 3:23 "For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God."

· The knowledge of the cross comes only by God’s sovereign revelation, and not by man's choosing. That offends man’s lofty thoughts of self. John 3:27 "John answered and said, A man can receive nothing, except it be given him from heaven."

· The fact that Christ died to save a particular people and not everyone, offends man’s pride and sense of justice. John 17:9 "I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for them which thou hast given me; for they are thine."
