In 1 Peter 1:2 Peter writes the following: "[To] the elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, in sanctification of the Spirit, for obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace to you and peace be multiplied (New King James Version)." I have determined that the author of this verse has given us a glimpse of the sacred doctrine of The Holy Trinity. Based upon this passage, I believe in God the Father, and in Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Spirit. The writers of the Apostles' Creed expanded on this doctrine by stating the following: [We] believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth. and in Jesus Christ,His only begotten Son,our Lord:who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; He descended into hell; the third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from there He shall come to judge the living and the dead. [We] believe in the Holy Spirit, a holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting." |
