In older times, warfare was waged on either side of a huge field. Soldiers could dig in, jump in a trench, hide in a foxhole, and lob serious harm to the other side without having to go hand-to-hand with anyone. Grenades and what-not did the job. That kind of battle is still raging between Arminians and Calvinists in our day. A magazine or a pulpit will throw out a bomb and then hide. The war goes on. Both sides are firmly entrenched and even in face to face debates there is no real change. The Scripture is final, both sides say.
I double-dare these men to come to the center of the battlefield and shout to both sides, "You're wrong!"
Then duck. Shots will be fired from both armies. You will be labeled heretic, compromiser, traitor. Or worse. You will be ignored, as I probably will in this blog.
But there is no doubt about it. As Spurgeon and Macarthur and others finally figured out: BOTH sides of the argument are in Scripture. Whosoever WILL may come! Saved from the foundation of the world!
This is a mystery folks. Ther is no solution to it. Embrace both ideas. God is sovereign. You are free to come to Jesus or not come.
Stop the battle. The church never needed to be divided on this issue. NEVER.
