CRY UNTO THE LORD

One mark of God’s children is they cry to the Lord. Here are just two examples. “Hear, O LORD, when I cry with my voice: have mercy also upon me, and answer me.” (Psalm 27:7) “LORD, I cry unto thee: make haste unto me; give ear unto my voice, when I cry unto thee.” (Psalm 141:1)

Recently I was able to spend some time with my newborn grandson. In that time, I was reminded how babies cry. As I saw my grandson cry, it occurred to me that the way he was crying is the very way I should cry unto the Lord. My grandson cried when he needed something or something hurt him. I noticed that he never one time made a suggestion to his parents as to how they could fix his problem. He just cried and depended on his parents or grandparents to fix what ailed him.

I want to cry to the Lord just that way. I desire child-like faith that will enable to me cry unto my heavenly Father in complete dependence on Him. I wish I would never again make suggestions as to how the Lord could help me. I desire to cry to the Lord and wait on Him in His love and wisdom to do what is best and right for me.

In the end it will prove to have been a great act of mercy on God’s part that he ordained the fall of our race in Adam that we might be redeemed by Christ.

WHAT DID ABRAHAM FIND?

“What shall we say then that Abraham our father as pertaining to the flesh, hath found?” These are the words the Holy Spirit uses to begin Romans 4, the chapter that defines to us what faith is. And the question He asks is, “What did Abraham find?” Did he find out that he would be saved if he met certain conditions that would lead to his salvation? Did he find out that salvation was available to him if he complied to certain terms, but it was ultimately dependent upon him first complying to the terms? No! He found out that he had been justified by what Christ did. You cannot find what was not already there before you found it!

No sinner has the right to even suspect that God loves them or Christ died for them unless they believe the Gospel. There is no salvation apart from faith! When you believe, you rely on the fact that your salvation was accomplished when Christ said, “It is finished.” You find out that your salvation was completely accomplished by Christ. You find out that Christ saved you on the cross. You find out that your entire acceptance with God was worked out by what Christ actually did when He lived and died for you. What Abraham found is what every believer finds in hearing the Gospel. “In Whom ye also trusted after that ye heard the Word of Truth, the Gospel of your salvation”(Ephesians 1:13).

They used to say milk makes strong bones. The first five years of my life I lived on a dairy farm in Hope, Arkansas. In the milking house, I could see the milk coming from the cows through the clear tubes into the vat. Mom would send me with a pitcher and I would bring it back full of fresh milk. Drinking that fresh milk early in life may be why I have not had many broken bones. But I know this is certain, the gospel milk is Christ himself. Christ is the Strength of his bones. In our many afflictions the Lord strengthens us in the inner man making us behold again through faith that Christ alone is our Salvation. "Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the LORD delivereth him out of them all. He keepeth all his bones: not one of them is broken" (Ps 34: 19-20).
