***WARNING***: The link will take you to my open air sermon on Youtube, but there is strong language in it. It is not suitable for children.
"And of the rest durst no man join himself to them: but the people magnified them." Acts 5:13
With the world the way that it is, and with the church under pressure from all sides, it is time to put all of our effort into living for the glory of God.
I was able to preach in the open air in Hull today for the first time in months. I was weak from having had Covid and was worried that either I would not be able to preach due to damage that had already been done to my lungs, or that I might harm them and never preach again. As it happened I was able to preach for around half an hour and that was thrilling.
The recording in the link here does not do justice to the opposition that I faced. To me it seemed Satanic and very direct. A spiritual war in fact. There was strong language, and this is distressing. I was unharmed. I feel so weak doing this work, but then I remember that I need to preach the Word and leave the results to God.
Over the years I have seen how things have degenerated. There is open immorality in the streets and the young people in particular militantly express the morality of the hour, and protest strongly against any message that exposes sin or calls them to repent and believe on the Lord Jesus Christ.
How I love this work, because my great hope is that, for some, the Gospel of Christ will yet prove to be the aroma of life unto life.
The foul language heard in the recording is offensive to God, but there is another form of offense which I believe is no less grievous to Him. Over 36 years I have experienced first hand how Gospel preachers can be shunned, marginalised, and ridiculed by the professing Evangelical church. Gospel preachers are looked on as mad fanatics who are at risk of harming the chuch by their ill informed antics. I say more about this in the recording in the link.
And yet, to preach the Gospel to sinners where they are is to obey the Lord Jesus Christ, and to love sinners, and long for their salvation. We are seeing more people than ever listening to the Gospel preaching, but we are also paying the price in terms of the abuse that we receive. Where is the rest of the church? Not praying for us, and certainly not standing there with us.
Now, of all times in church history, this is the time when we must stand up for the truth, and go all out to lift up the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. The Beast, the False Prophet, the Image and the Mark will be with us soon.
This is no time for personal empire building in the kingdom of this world. We have a duty to spend and be spent in proclaiming the Gospel, and to look to God to give the increase.
We have an opportunity to preach Christ and people will listen. It's just costly, that's all.
