"BROKEN THE EVERLASTING COVENANT" - - Isa 24:5

"The earth mourns and fades away, the world languishes and fades away; The proud people of the earth languish. The earth is also defiled under its inhabitants, because they have transgressed the laws, changed the ordinance, broken the everlasting covenant." vs4-5

There is no hope, joy, or peace for those who break the everlasting covenant. They reject Christ and His finished work, though He's an all sufficient Savior. They despise His blood and the redemption that He's obtained, choosing to live in sin, unbelief, and pride. They'll never have peace nor pleasure with God.

This is the UNPARDONABLE SIN. We can be guilty of all transgressions - lying, stealing, murder, and child molestation - and He will forgive us. Come to Him, and He'll take them away from your guilty mind, because He's already paid for the sins of everyone who believes. Yet, if we despise the covenant and stand before God with anything other than Christ alone - even our best efforts - then we'll be found guilty of rejecting Gods Son and the grace that's in the gospel. He says, "Truly I tell you, the sons of men will be forgiven all sins and blasphemies, as many as they utter. But whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven; he is guilty of eternal sin [Mark 3:28-29]."

Unbelief unrepented of will never be pardoned. Try as you might, our works are not an acceptable extra on top of Christ! They are done in love and godly fear because of a free salvation that secures us of all blessings, or they are the deeds of covenant breakers and rebels. We must believe, or we'll perish!

There's a second aspect of the new covenant ratified by Jesus' death: it produces holiness. Paul says, "Nevertheless, God’s firm foundation stands, bearing this seal: 'The Lord knows those who are His,' and, 'Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord must turn away from iniquity [2 Tim 2:19].'”

Yes, we must turn from sin, which means that we must believe Christ's cleansing power, or we despise the covenant and worship a dead christ who's not alive to save. We can't have His death, if we don't receive His resurrection into newness of life also [Rom 6:5].

We are boxed in on both sides, brothers. We can't trust our works, and yet we must do them. We're not justified by them, and yet they justify our faith [James 2:26]. We're saved without doing anything, and yet we live unto God's glory, being zealous of good works.

This is why many despise the everlasting covenant: it leaves no room to glory in the flesh, and it denies ungodliness! It makes us serve God in thankfulness and selfless humility, glorifying God alone in Christ. This, however, is the only way of peace, and it's the only power whereby God works to mortify our lusts and sinful passions. "Now may the God of peace, who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep, equip you with every good thing to do His will. And may He accomplish in usd what is pleasing in His sight through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen [Heb 13:20-21]."

Are you despising the covenant? Let us turn now to Jesus our Lord, seeking Him, while He may be found.
