Just askin'... 2. Does it really matter what we wear?

Silence still reigns over my last question. Oh well.

Let me try another.

And i realize up front that this can be considered a surface matter, not a matter of the heart. Not a matter of one's salvation. Not a huge doctrinal issue. I get it.

But the question is still relevant as the culture gets - in my opinion - worse and worse, and the church is bent on keeping up with it. The professing church anyway.

Jesus told a parable about a guy not dressed right for a wedding. I know, I know, this was about the proper spiritual preparation for heaven. Being born again. Regeneration. Forgiveness.

But He did tell a parable about a guy not dressed right for a wedding. Right? There are proper ways to dress for a wedding, and we all seem to honor that tradition.

Funerals too. We don't wear jeans and t-shirts when attempting to honor the dead.

Businessmen wear shirts and ties. So do Presidents and those who visit them.

There are just things we MUST "dress up" for. And Church used to be one of those things. From the pulpit to the back pew, everyone who possibly could, dressed in fine clothes. The others were saving up money to match their peers. You just had to look right in church.

Today. We still honor the dead and the bride and the groom and the President and our boss if he requires it. But...

Why not church? By what logic can a man dressed in Bermuda shorts or faded torn jeans able to grab my respect for what he is talking about? Why do the saints (I speak not of visitors who know no better. Let them in. Love them.) feel it is now OK to wear the tightest of pants and the shortest of shorts and the ugliest of shoes and the most revealing of tops, into a place set aside for the Worship of

the President of the Universe,

the One Who was raised from the Dead,

the Groom who will be coming for a beautiful bride one day?

I don't get it. I get the fact that many dressed up people are lost. And many dressed down people are saved. Don't change the subject...

I'm sayin' , Why did we have to follow the world into this tragedy of disrespect and casualness toward the King of Kings? Why isn't the church considered important enough to show our best? Does it really matter what's goin on in those rooms we visit every week?

Just askin'...
